Avoid Insurance Company Tactics Like “Swoop and Settle” with DC Law

DC Law’s Dan Christensen joined Studio 512 co-host Stephanie Gilbert to talk insurance company tactics and what to watch out for.

When you’ve been injured by someone else’s negligence, the first thing most people do is call their insurance company.. What do most people not know about their insurance companies?

“A lot of people don’t realize that the insurance company isn’t on your side. Don’t fall into their traps after falling into a wreck. They will immediately want to take a recorded statement and then have the insured sign an unlimited medical clearance so they can sift through all of the person’s medical history, and even offer a small quick settlement in exchange for a full release of all claims (past and future), all within the first 24 hours after a sinking.

“This practice has become so common that it has a name: ‘dive and settle’. The legislature is aware of this practice and has done nothing to restrict the tactics of insurance companies. Ironically, the legislature has passed laws and regulations preventing attorneys from reaching out to injury victims, but insurance companies can do whatever they want. It does not mean anything.

It’s unfortunate, so what do you recommend someone do before contacting their insurance company?

“Call our office, we are available 24/7, we can even come to see you at home or at the hospital. We will do our best to protect your rights, and you don’t have to worry about the initial payment, you don’t pay anything unless we win. If you need medical attention, we can help you find the proper care you need with some of Austin’s best doctors and facilities. Don’t let insurance companies take away what is rightfully yours — protect your rights! »
