Woman fights for insurance coverage after pipe fell from Revere underpass smashed windshield – CBS Boston
REVERE (CBS) – This is when timing was everything to Gina Ugi, her windshield suddenly shattered when a huge pipe crashed as she walked through the Sargent Street underpass in Revere.
“I was so surprised; it hit me, ”Ugi said. “It was a 30 foot metal pipe, an 8 inch round metal pipe.”

He sent glass flying everywhere, though Ugi was physically unharmed. “I got out and the first thing I did was empty my glass shoes. I was covered in glass.
According to Revere Police, the freak accident was caused by a semi-trailer seen passing through the underpass just before Ugi, hitting a conduit pipe and then taking off moments before his car arrived at the scene.

“I was so shocked; it’s like I was unconscious for a second at that point. I remember it was very obviously.
Ugi, a mother of two, says it could have happened to anyone in a fraction of a second. “The way he hit and bounced, I know I hit the brakes and shifted a bit.”
Since the accident, Ugi has been battling his insurance company for coverage and is also trying to regain his confidence by driving under some of the state’s bridges on his daily commute. “I didn’t expect this to happen under a bridge, and I feel like I’m literally ducking out and trying to avoid them.”

Her car is still in the garage awaiting repairs and her rental allowance has now run out. The experience was a nightmare – just to be in the right place at the wrong time.
